Unless you live under a rock on the moon with your eyes closed and your hands covering your ears, you've heard the unfortunate news that Michael Jackson has passed away. I've been a fan of his since the Thriller video scared the dicks out of me a child, and am convinced that he may also be responsible for my zombie fascination. Say what you want about his questionable personal life and bad relationship with the media; nobody can question his positive impact on the music industry and considerable contribution to pop music.
Therefore, here's a small collection of his presence in the geek world:
Gaming Soundscapes 13: Moonwalker - Michael Jackson Tribute
Thriller on XBL
The Thriller music video is available on Xbox LIVE for free! What better way for Microsoft to honor Jackson than to spread some of his best work?
Michael Quest
This is awesome. Fantastic music accompanying Jackson's Moonwalker graphics in various other video games. Good times.
Thriller (VRC6 Cover)
Digging the music so far? Then be sure to check out the perfect Thriller chiptune cover by the ridiculously talented Jake Kaufman. It's an incredibly faithful version of the original, made to sound almost like it was played on an NES.
GamesRadar remembers Michael Jackson
Lastly, GamesRadar has an excellent compilation of MJ in video games. It features screenshots of games he starred in, and shows (with examples) of how his music even affected music in games. Very cool!
Edit 6/29/09: This project looks promising!
Edit 7/3/09: talkRadar covers MJ.
